Wedding at The White Horse Hotel
Tell us about yourselves…
We had met briefly through friends of friends. One night we were in a local nightclub and Ian came over and started talking, we instantly clicked! It was so strange that in a busy noisy nightclub we sat talking and laughing for hours and even managed a wee dance, it was like no one else was there!
How did he / she propose?
I will never forget Christmas Day 2015, we had just had our little boy in August and it was his 1st Christmas. I planned everything from what little Michael was wearing on Christmas Eve to the two Christmas Day outfits he would be wearing. His presents were all sitting perfect waiting on him waking up. Ian got up and said he needed to build my present before Michael woke up. I was excited as for weeks I went on and on about a car seat that swirled round etc, it was ridiculously priced. I thought that was what my present was, even though Ian was so against it.
Shortly after Michael woke up Ian told me to rest and he would change the nappy. Next thing I get a call to come into the sunroom. When I walked in I was in that much shock I didn’t even see the decor, Michael’s wee outfit asking to marry Mummy. It was amazing, the rest of the day was visiting family and celebrating, there was so much excitement it was something we all needed after the year we had as a family.
Tell us about the planning of your wedding day…
We never really discussed much before booking the hotel all we wanted was a Saturday and somewhere close to home. On route to the city for shopping, I booked us into a local hotel that had a private wedding showcase and that was that. We paid the deposit armed with free Saturdays in 2017 for us to check the availability in my chapel. We looked at dates from June and the first date that both hotel and chapel were available was 2nd Sept 2017.
My sisters were all married and helped me create a list and on that was the things I needed to sort sooner rather than later. We booked the big items, transport, photographers etc quite quickly. We have great companies locally and when we looked at the list it was easy to pick friends/companies I knew through other friends or wedding.
Where and when did you get married?
We got married in St Mary’s Limavady by the Monsignor McCanny. Our pictures started at Country Park where we both spent your childhoods and where take our Michael often. Myself and Ian then headed toward the Keady Mountain and had photographs taken overlooking the town that has given us so much. After all the pictures were finished we headed to the White Horse Hotel where the guests enjoyed music from the harpist Eimear Hughes and the kids enjoyed running mad on Kidz Play Bus. Our evening entertainment was Dj Wes Discos, we booked a full night disco, sparkle dance floor and photo booth – this was the best pick of my wedding. He was great with the crowd, his team on the photo booth were excellent with the kids and the music was the best. Everyone was dancing and acting like we were all teenagers, partying it out at the Gorteen!
Tell us about the outfits…
Oh the dress, I purchased my dress at Tomorrows Bridal during the Tian Phoenix Gown Danielle Couture designer event. It was the second shop and second dress within that shop I tried on. I loved it instantly and knew this was my dress, the only issue was that I didn’t know the price and this panicked me! My mum stepped in and said that I wasn’t to be told the price as it was a present from her and daddy. They brought me my first dress and would buy my last dress as a Cosby. It was an Ivory with Blush underneath and customized so the top wasn’t as revealing as the original pattern. I loved my experience as a Bride at Tomorrows and I took Ian there also. All 13 suits were either purchased or rented from Thomas and the team.
The bridesmaids dresses were purchased at Ultimate Dresses Dungiven during their True Bridesmaid event. We secured a 2018 collection dress in April, four months before the wedding. I told the girls that my dress had a blush tone and they were excellent at matching bridesmaids dresses.
The little details…
Everyone deserves a mention but a top tip would be to pick people you like and have a connection with. On the day of your wedding, you have so many strangers joining your day that it’s best to have people you will be comfortable with. My photographers, videographer, transport, makeup, hair, dressmaker etc all came into my parent’s house and it was like they were old friends. We laughed ate and drank during all the preparations, I will cherish my wedding morning and the people who helped me get ready.
Our hairs were styled by Linda and Ciara from Hair Vanity and our makeup was by Emily at Radiance Beauty, we felt like a million dollars after the girls were finished with us, they are all so talented.
We chose Wisteria Lane Florists for our flowers and they didn’t disappoint, the flowers were amazing.
Our wedding cake was from Hunters in Limavady and it not only looked fantastic but tasted delicious too.
Cool Classics Car Hire provided our transport for the day, we had a vintage Volkswagen bus and a vintage beetle, they were class.
Our Photographer was Paul from Acorn Images, he was great and made us feel totally at ease all day along with our Videographer from I Do Wedding Videos, they were all great and we had a laugh during the day.
We had quite a bit of entertainment going on during the day, the music at the Chapel was provided by Eimear Hughes, Aine Devine & Emer McGill and it was fantastic. Then we had Mr Majestic the Magician and the Kids Play Bus to keep the little ones amused and DJ Wes provided our disco in the evening and had the dance floor buzzing all night.
Our reception venue was the White Horse Hotel in Londonderry, the staff at the hotel were all great from booking right through to the day itself, I couldn’t recommend them enough.
Where did you go on Honeymoon?
We had a lovely mini-moon at the Galgorm, it was totally relaxing and just what the doctor ordered, then we went to Costa Bravo with the little one. In December we are heading to Poland for the Christmas Markets while Michael will have fun sleeping over with his cousins.
What was the highlight of your wedding day?
Saying “I Do” with family and friends present, this moment hit us both the most. So many people we love under the same roof and all there for us! We quickly realised how blessed and grateful we are to have them all in our life. Also, my little one walking down the aisle, this was the moment my emotions got the better of me but the car drivers and my daddy quickly sorted me out.
A little advice is that I can’t stress enough to go with suppliers you used before, know or like, these people will either stress you out or make your wedding. Luckily mines made my wedding.
Many thanks to Georgina and Ian for sharing their wedding with us.
